FAQS

1. I can't do Crossfit because I don't want to aggravate back or neck pain from previous injuries.

Numerous clients have came into crossfit with previous injuries or tweaks and found relief from the pain by strengthening the muscles around the problem area. All to often people neglect exercising their low back due to fear of injury. Because of this they end up deconditioned, weak, and more susceptible to injury in the future from minor mishaps which is usually what happens. Taking part in Crossfit will provide you a buffer so that you are less susceptible to these kinds of injuries. The movements and workouts are all completely scalable allowing anyone to participate.

2. How do you program you classes?

Our crossfit classes consist of a thorough warm-up, a strength or power movement like an overhead press or power clean, and is then followed up by a short-duration, high-intensity metcon, or conditioning workout. This allows our athletes to for our athletes to get frequent practice with complex weight-lifting movements, and still reap the benefits of a traditional Crossfit workout.

3. Can I get a good workout in under 30 minutes?

-Yes. More and more research shows that short duration/ high intensity workouts yield higher benefits/ results. The truth is, the longer the effort, the lower the intensity. If you run 10 miles your intensity( power output) will be lower than if you run multiple 400 meter sprints. Crossfit Tier 1 will occasionally program a workout that is longer duration ( 20-30 minutes) , but the majority of our workouts are short and intense. If you have a shorter workout, you can work harder by nature which can lend to a better response, especially combined with the movements we do. No matter who you are or what workouts you do, without hard work you will not receive results, which is why we encourage you to work to the limits of your physiological and psychological tolerances.

4. Will get too big and bulky?

Most of our clients are seeking to obtain as much lean muscle mass with as little body fat as possible. This is only possible through hard, consistent work in the gym, and a solid diet like eating paleo. Most women have the fear that lifting heavy weights will cause them to bulk up like men. This is could not be farther from the truth. Women do not produce enough testosterone naturally to bulk up like men. By training to get stronger through our workouts, and eating a solid paleo diet, you can achieve a body that will allow you not only look better naked, but also perform like an athlete.

5. Can I get hurt doing Crossfit?

You can get hurt doing any activity, that's the honest truth. At Crossfit Tier 1 we take a systematic approach to insuring our athletes can perform their workouts to the highest degree without fear of injury.

6. What is the Tier 1 Foundations program, why do I have to take it?

The T1FP program exists to teach people the fundamental Crossfit movements, regardless of prior athletic experience. It is required for all new members to go through our four-week on-ramp program. In the program we go through three steps.

Step 1: Safe Mechanics. We ensure all of our athletes can execute the movements that occur in the workouts day to day by teaching them safe mechanics through our four week beginners program. During this time you work with a coach as they teach you the movements fundamental to our Crossfit program.

Step 2: Consistency: Ensure the athlete can repeat a given movement with proper technique.

Step 3: Intensity: Once proper mechanics and consistency have been developed, we can then introduce the athlete to the intensity of the movements in a workout. Intensity is the last step in the program, we will not introduce an athlete to intensity if the prior steps are not proficient
