Brandon

Hello everyone, and welcome to CrossFit Tier 1. My career as a trainer, and later a coach, began almost 20 years ago in kickboxing, boxing and the then burgeoning sport of mixed martial arts. I began my career as an athlete well before that - I played high school football, track, baseball and soccer along with pursuing club level football and soccer in college. True strength sports came later for me - kettlebells first almost 10 years ago, and then weightlifting, powerlifting and GPP style conditioning programs of all sorts. I found CrossFit in 2009, and since then, there has been no turning back. I became a Level 1 Coach in 2009 and we opened our box soon after, showcasing almost 4 decades of training and coaching experience between myself and CFT1's co-owner Neal Woolard.


We strive to provide the most balanced, professional, and inclusive program of CrossFit and Athletic performance coaching available while maintaining a fun and motivating atmosphere that is family friendly. We cater to athletes of all ages, backgrounds and experience levels. We are, as I often like to put it, as hardcore as you want to be. Our community of competitive and elite level athletes is one of the best in the region, and this is a great asset to our member athletes at large.


As a coach, my clients and athletes range from novice to professional, developmental to elite. My focus is on technique, mental toughness, and providing confidence in each individual's own athletic potential. I have coached regional level CrossFit competitors, both individual and team, for the past 4 years. I am still a high level CrossFit competitor, and my unique perspective as an older CF athlete, coach, father and program director allows me to give our member athletes inclusive and dynamic program design as well as functional, effective coaching. My name is Neal Woolard. I was born and raised here in eastern North Carolina. I moved to Greenville by way of Bath NC in 1991 to attend East Carolina University. After 4 years of college, Exercise Sports Science major, I decided to join the work force. After 5 years of driving trains for CSX railroad, the idea of doing it for another 35 years didn’t appeal to me as much as the paycheck did in the beginning. Working for the railroad all the live long day….and mostly night wasn’t what I considered living the dream. That’s when I decided to go back to what I loved to do the most....work out.


I began personal training back in 2001. My training consisted of mostly powerlifting while I played football growing up, when I attended ECU I continued that type of training while playing rugby along with more intense cardiovascular work. After college I dabbled in Amateur Boxing for about 5 years. So when I started personal training I put together workouts that combined all the above to keep my clients from getting burned out on the same ole same ole each workout. While training my clients at a globo gym where I worked for 7ish years, I met a guy named Brandon Johnson. He was all over the place with his training as well, and also had a background in boxing. We quickly became training partners, and after beating the hell out of each other for a couple of years, we started knocking around the idea of opening our own gym. That’s when Tier 1 Fitness was born.


The last 4 years have flown by at the speed of light. I feel like it was just yesterday, when I coached Brandon and he coached me….because we were the only two in the gym in the beginning. Ive seen our gym grow from family and friends to a much bigger group of the same family and friends today. We brought the sport of CrossFit to Greenville NC back in 2010. Our CrossFit floor has grown from a 400sq ft section of our gym to the main focus of the 24,000 sq ft gym we are in now. We have built a program which consisted of two coaches coaching each other in a class to 7 classes a day and the attendance grows every class. With some help from some very important people in my life (Brandon Johnson, OC Britt and most of all Erica Swain) I can honestly say I am living the dream every day, and each day has gotten better than yesterday.

Hello, everyone ! My name is Brent and I am a Level 1 coach at Tier 1. I have been participating in CrossFit since January 2012. I met Brandon and Neal while coaching football at JH Rose High School where I was for 7 years. I knew, by watching them with the players, that this was something that I wanted to be a part of. I’ve always enjoyed helping people get better and achieve any goals that they may have.

I’m from Thomasville, NC and have been involved in CrossFit since December 2012. I am currently attending East Carolina University pursuing a degree in Kinesiology to better my understanding on how to properly train individuals to live a healthier life. I have always been a very active individual participating in multiple sports in high school including football, basketball, and golf. Once I finished my senior year of sports I began to wonder what I was going to do next for fun. That is when I found CrossFit. At that point in time my life changed completely. Through hardwork and determination I became the healthiest I have ever been thanks to CrossFit. As a coach I am excited each day to work with individuals so that they may continue their CrossFit journey just as I am.

My name is Skyler woolard. I am an certified personal trainer at Crossfit Tier1, and I help run the Barbell portion of our great gym. I came to Greenville to attend Pitt Community College as well as East Carolina. While attending college and being taught "the right way" to train I found my self missing what I had found during highschool. Growing up I was a chubby kid who hated anything exercise related. Luckily for me my parents got me into barbell training, not only did iIlose weight but I gained a ton of self respect and started excelling at sports I originally hated. I went through the motions of college and "globo" gym style of work, until one day I had enough and sought out a place I could train myself and more importantly my clients the way I knew was best.


That is when I sought out Neal and Brandon here at Tier1, they welcomed me and my clients like family and I have never been more pleased with a business choice or really life choice than when I decided to train at the best gym in eastern North Carolina.


I am an Elite level Powerlifter, my total is 1610lbs w/ knee wraps at 242lbs. Best lifts at a meet are 615 squat, 385 bench, 610 deadlift. I compete in 100% Raw and SPF federations.


I use the main four barbell movements to help my clients reach their goals, whether those goals be weight loss, endurance, athletic performance or just becoming a better version
ones self.

I began CrossFitting in 2010 after the birth of my second daughter. I played high school softball and college rugby, and after years of being a gym rat, I found my calling as a CrossFit athlete. I enjoy all aspects of the sport - weightlifting, gymnastics, and ...well, not rowing... I believe in the benefits that it has brought to me and my family - it's amazing to see my two daughters embracing an active lifestyle. I believe that whiners are wieners. I am a bad mamma-jamma; if you don't know, you betta' ask somebody. Keep it classy Greenville.

My name is Jenny Magee aka DJ Jmags aka AC Magee. My athletic career began freshman year of college playing Division II lacrosse. In 2012, after transferring to East Carolina University due to an injury, I was introduced to CrossFit. I am an Exercise Physiology major, graduating in the Spring of 2015 and planning to attend Physical Therapy school. After earning my DPT, I hope to team up with a gym and transform that community by optimizing movement to improve the exercise experience and decrease injury rates. Aside from assistant coaching and personal training at Tier 1, I also am a trainer on staff at the Student Recreation Center at ECU.


I like to think that my main strengths as a coach are my enthusiasm and optimism. I spend approximately 98% of my day with a smile on my face. My goal is to make your time spent exercising as efficient and enjoyable as possible. I love partner workouts, back squatting dogs, rapping while lifting, and wearing mismatched outfits.

I am a senior at East Carolina University studying Athletic Training. I started CrossFit over a year ago as part of a personal weight loss journey where I shredded over 60 pounds of fat. Swimming, Competing, and meeting new people are just a few of my hobbies.

Hey Guys, my name is Connor Hart and I will be helping assistant coach at Tier 1! I am currently a junior and Biology major here at East Carolina University. I hope to become a physician’s assistant and do cancer research after my time at ECU. I have been doing CrossFit for over a year now, starting back in December of 2013. I was tired of going to the gym and doing traditional weightlifting, as I had been doing this since the beginning of High school while training for both soccer and basketball. My first CrossFit WOD was Grace. A buddy at home challenged me to give it a go. It sounded easy and after almost four minutes I was sprawled out on the floor gasping for breath. I was humbled and ready to get better at CrossFit. This past December I completed my first RX competition, Sandstorm in Wilmington. Apart from assistant coaching I follow my inner nerd and tutor Chemistry at the Pirate Tutoring Center. I also work in the ECU chemistry lab, where we are currently filming Breaking Bad Two. I strive to keep getting better every day and hope to share my love of fitness to help you all reach your fitness goals!
